The incumbent serves as one of four Visa Assistants in U.S. Embassy Prague's Visa Unit. The incumbent provides the full range of immigrant and nonimmigrant visa (IV and NIV) services. The incumbent is fully trained to handle a high volume of cases and has the ability to evaluate and respond to non-routine cases. The incumbent has training responsibilities for new, temporary, and seasonal employees, and offers advice and guidance to an eligible family member (EFM) and consular officers on complex cases and procedures. U.S. Embassy Prague is a medium-small post with up to 300 IV and 13,000 NIV applicants per year comprised of TCNs from over 100 countries annually. The employee is fully cross-trained to function in any role in the unit as required by visa demand and scheduling. The incumbent has authoritative knowledge of 9 FAM regulations and consults the FAM regularly to manage the wide range of types of applicants.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum two years of progressively responsible experience involving the application of regulations and law, extensive public contact and/or problem-solving experience.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Able to act independently and exercise sound judgment. Initiative, common sense, and tact are required to meet unexpected and unique situations. Must be able to manage time effectively and prioritize work.
EDUCATION: Two years of college or university studies is required.
LANGUAGE: English & Czech Fluent (Reading/Writing/Speaking). This may be tested.
